0CE Calabar Ministry Center: Children’s Church Hosts “Kiddies Summer Camp”
Earlier this month, the Children’s Church of Christ Embassy Calabar Ministry Center, South-south Nigeria hosted their annual “Kiddies Summer Camp”. With children everywhere out of school while parents are working, there is often a lot of time over these summer months in which children require much more than the parents are able to give and provide.
This year, the Kiddies Summer Camp carried out the theme titled ‘Raising Champions that will Influence Tomorrow’. The overall goal of the Ministry Center in hosting the Kiddies Summer Camp is to “teach, build and develop the children’s study and prayer life; guiding them to discover and harness their innate potentials and gifting”. The camp took place from August 5th – 10th, 2019 and the participants were excited and expectant children, ready and willing to go deeper in their understanding and relationship with God.
“Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.” Deuteronomy 6:7
The kids were encouraged and strengthened in their identity and security in Christ through various lessons, games and endless activities. The activities for the children were centered around their Bible Study Curriculum for the summer holiday that includes teaching, arts and crafts activities for toddlers and preschoolers, fashion design, dance, drama, music, up-cycling, sports, outdoor recreation and so much more!
As the week began to gather at the close, there was a special showcase to present all the wonderful accomplishments of the children from the course of 5 days of biblical teaching and activities. The children were given the invitation for baptism, to proclaim their undying faith in Jesus Christ and trusting Him as their Savior. They also led outreaches and shared the love of God with the community while walking through the streets with animated tracts and kiddies’ Rhapsody of Realities devotional Bible. Many children were introduced to the gospel for the first time.
“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6
These experiences are so vitally important in a child’s life. In the way adults experience God in community with other believers, the same is important for children, too. When children experience God in the fullness of joy, as they do each year at the Kiddies Summer Camp, they are encouraged and inspired to live in unity with God. The children expressed great excitement while looking towards their futures with certainty that God is great, and He wants to use them to impact this world with His greatness.
