The Essence of Easter Revealed by Pastor Chris

The celebration of Easter holds a deep and life-changing meaning for every Christian. It is more than a remembrance; it is a revelation of victory, sacrifice, and divine purpose During a recent Easter service, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome shared powerful insights into the essence of Easter. He explained how the death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus Christ represent the foundation of the Christian faith.

Pastor Chris Explains the Mystery of the Blood and Water

Reading from John 19:34, Pastor Chris highlighted a unique moment in the crucifixion story. After Jesus had already died on the cross, a soldier pierced His side with a spear. Immediately, blood and water flowed out. This was not a regular occurrence, and the Apostle John, who witnessed it, knew it was a sign. He emphasized that he saw it with his own eyes and recorded it so that others would believe it.

Pastor Chris pointed out that this moment was full of spiritual significance. The blood and water that came from Jesus’ side revealed the completion of a divine process. The pressure that caused it to flow so quickly showed something more than a physical act. It pointed to the temple of Jesus’ body and the fulfilment of God’s plan for salvation.

The New Temple and the Final Sacrifice

In John 2:19-21, Jesus spoke about the temple being destroyed and raised in three days. Pastor Chris explained that Jesus was not referring to a physical building but to His own body. The old temple and the old covenant were passing away. Jesus, as the final Passover lamb, had become the new and living temple. When He died, the veil of the temple was torn in two, symbolizing access to God being open for all.

Pastor Chris emphasized that there is no longer a need for repeated sacrifices. Jesus was the lamb slain once and for all. This is the power of Easter. It is not only a story of sacrifice, but a declaration of victory. Jesus became the perfect offering, and through Him, we are washed, sanctified, and justified.

The Role of Jesus as Our High Priest

Another powerful part of Pastor Chris’ Easter message was about Jesus as our High Priest. He explained the event between Jesus and Mary Magdalene when she saw Him after His resurrection. She did not immediately recognize Him and mistook Him for a gardener. But when Jesus called her name, she recognized Him and ran toward Him. Then Jesus said, “Do not touch me, for I have not yet ascended to my Father.”

Pastor Chris taught that this was an important detail. Jesus had to go before God as the High Priest, carrying His own blood. Just as the high priest in the Old Testament could not be touched before entering the Holy of Holies, Jesus could not be touched before He completed this divine mission. His blood had to be presented before the Father in heaven, and He was doing this for us—not for Himself.

The First and Second Ascensions: Pastor Chris Brings Clarity

Many only think of the ascension of Jesus recorded in Acts 1. However, Pastor Chris brought a deeper understanding by pointing to Psalm 24 and other scriptures. He explained that the encounter with Mary showed that Jesus ascended to the Father on that same day of His resurrection. He presented His blood in the heavenly Holy of Holies. Later, He returned and met His disciples in Galilee, just as He had said.

The ascension in Acts chapter 1 was the second one, where Jesus rose visibly into the heavens before His disciples. Pastor Chris showed that this second ascension was a public event, but the first ascension was private and prophetic. This revelation opens up a deeper appreciation for the timeline of Easter and what Jesus accomplished in the spirit realm.

The Power of Easter in the Believer’s Life

Pastor Chris’s teaching during this Easter season reveals how much was accomplished through Jesus’ death and resurrection. He is our High Priest, our Temple, and our Passover Lamb. Through Him, we now have direct access to God. The blood He shed is still speaking for us today.

Pastor Chris reminds every believer that Easter is not just a celebration of history—it is a present reality. We are the result of that victory. Our sins are forgiven, our lives are justified, and our future is secure. Easter is our proof that the sacrifice was accepted, and we now live in the power of the resurrection.
