0What, why, where, when, how? Pastor Chris is ready to answer your questions
Did you know that you can ask Pastor Chris Oyakhilome for advice about anything regarding Christianity and faith?
Every day, Pastor Chris answers a new question from one of the Christ Embassy members and uploads his answer in video and text here.
In that way, you can make sure that you live life after God’s Word and are ready to receive his miracles.
Some of the questions that have been asked are, for instance, is listening to worldly music a sin? How can I attain spiritual maturity and experience God’s peace? And is God the author of good and evil?
Do not do anything in excess
Today, Mbali from South Africa asked if drinking alcohol is wrong.
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s answer was quite simple.
“You know, the Bible did not say that drinking alcohol is a sin, it did not say that, it did not say that. What the Bible says is for us not to drink in excess, and remember, He was not making alcohol an issue at any time because He does not want us to do anything in excess anyway,” Chris Oyakhilome said.
“See, He does not want you to eat in excess or drink water in excess or anything you do in excess. So, what the Lord really tells us is not to drink in excess. I will read that to you in a moment and that is very important, but you know, the more you grow in spiritual things, the more you leave things that are unnecessary behind. And growth is not just leaving the bad things for the good things, it means leaving good things for the best things,” Pastor Chris Oyakhilome continued.
Be drunk with the Spirit
He then went on to read the book of Ephesians 5:18 to give an example.
“And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit. The amplified version says, ‘and do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery; but ever be filled and stimulated with the (Holy) Spirit.’ So, that is what God wants us to do. He did not say do not drink! He said do not be filled with wine, do not be drunk with wine. He says be rather drunk with the Spirit, be filled with the Spirit, be drunk with wine. So, do not make wine an issue of your preaching when you talk to people about Jesus Christ because, naturally, as they grow in the things of God, they will leave the wine behind if they do not find any serious benefits in it. So, it is not an issue, do not make it an issue. God did not make it an issue. Neither should you,” the Pastor said.
